Ever thought that working with family was complicated? Well, think again; the mother-daughter duo Bernadette and Charlotte De Geyter will prove you wrong. With their fashion brand “Bernadette”, they have already skyrocketed to success in just over a year and a half!
Based in Antwerp, mother and daughter create ethereal silk dresses with floral prints hand-painted by Charlotte, who studied at the Royal Academy of Arts of Anvers and worked in fashion for six months in London before coming back home.
Bernadette de Geyter recalls how delighted she was when her daughter called her from London asking if she wanted to create a brand with her.

Both women have always enjoyed foraging for vintage clothes together. They have amassed over the years, quite a collection of antique lingerie, robes and nightgowns with beautiful lacework. The mother-and-daughter team finds inspiration in their vintage collection and iconic women such as Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn and Ava Gardner, but also Brigitte Bardot.
Charlotte, the co-founder of the Belgian label, explains that she named the brand after her mother and not herself because her mum is her main muse and inspiration. She says that working with family can be challenging, but it is also very powerful since they can trust each other completely. As a mother, I feel I could hug her right now!

The retro-looking garments they design are meant to make women feel strong, fresh and relaxed. Considering the huge success of these romantic and easy-to-wear dresses, I guess they do.
The biggest online shops, as MyTheresa, Net-A-Porter, Moda Operandi and The Modist, have already picked up Bernadette. You can also find the colourful silk dresses at the Parisian Le Bon Marché, Browns and Selfridges in London and Bergdorf Goodman in New York, to name a few.
Or just chose from our selection of chic botanical looks:
