IMO, Alessandra de Osma is the most stylish princess
IMO, for those who don’t know, stands for In My Opinion. About opinions, there’s a saying that goes: the difference between pizza and your opinion is that I actually asked for pizza. But why should my opinion matter about what you think of Alessandra de Osma or Princess Alessandra of Hannover? Because like her I was born in South America and married to a German prince. Wow, that makes us BFFs – just kidding. But it doesn’t change the fact that my opinion is based on the Gotha and not on Hola!
Over the past 30 years, I have known many princesses and aristocrats, married or born, and I can say that Princess Alessandra of Hannover is special, to the point of being the most stylish aristocrat in Europe. Keep reading, because in this article we will bring information about Alessandra de Osma that you haven’t read anywhere else.
Not just looks, but perfect behaviour
Ekaterina of Hannover, married to Hereditary Prince Ernst August, brother of Alessandra’s husband, described Sassa like this: “Wonderful, loyal, and organized“. What an accomplishment to hear these words from your sister-in-law!
Alessandra de Osma is discreet and definitely understands the unwritten rules of the closed aristocratic group to which she belongs. Even though she has over 110,000 followers on Instagram, she declares that “One must keep private life private. Or at least try. I have clear things that I show on social media: my cultural interests, my fashion references, the places I discover, or the moments related to my work.“
Alessandra is also accessible and friendly. This same impression was had by journalist Paloma Simón, who interviewed her for Vanity Fair Spain: “Otherwise, there is nothing in her appearance that suggests that this young slim dark-haired woman, who wears jeans, Venetian slippers, and leaves her sunglasses on the table to look you in the eye while she speaks, is a Royal Highness besides Duchess of Brunswick-Lüneburg and is related to all European royals“. I’m holding back, but I promise I won’t make any remark on how Meghan Markle could behave.
The real story of how Alessandra met her husband Christian
Most of the British and German press tell the story that Alessandra met Christian when she was 14 years old, in Peru, while she was serving as a tour guide for him. This story is a legend! They met for the first time when she was 18, and Christian was travelling through South America and decided to spend some time in Peru. Someone close to the Osma family connected Christian with Alessandra’s cousins (she has 30 cousins). One thing leads to another, and that’s how it all happened.
Alessandra and Christian got married in 2018 in Lima, at the Basilica of San Pedro, where she wore the Hannover floral tiara, made of platinum and diamonds designed in the 19th century. The wedding was a media event with guests such as Eugenia and Beatriz of York, Kate Moss and Nikolai von Bismarck, and Talita von Fürstenberg, among others. At the time, the press, already anticipating that Alessandra would become a style icon, began referring to her as the “Princess of the Andes“.
Sassa
Sassa is a nickname that Alessandra de Osma gave herself when she was young because she couldn’t pronounce her full name properly. Her family thought it was cute and started calling her that. She added the double “S” when she was a preteen. Nowadays, she feels more comfortable being called Sassa instead of her full name, Alessandra.
De Osmas
Alessandra comes from the de Osma family, to whom some people refer as “The Rockefellers of Peru“. And like Rockefeller’s relation with the MoMA, Alessandra’s family has a significant art collection, which her ancestor Pedro de Osma Gildemeister built in his own house in Lima. The house became a museum called the Museo Pedro de Osma and contains paintings, sculptures, and silver and gold pieces from the 16th to 18th centuries. Two important paintings depicting the marriage between Inca and Spanish aristocracy were recently loaned to the Prado Museum in Madrid.
MOI & SASS
Sassa studied law at the University of Lima and earned a master’s degree in fashion and business from the University of Navarra. She also worked as a fashion model for many years. In 2018, she and her partner, Chilean designer Moira Laporta, created the handbag brand MOI & SASS. The bags have a classic design with a twist, similar to Sassa’s style. And they are made with high-quality leather and craftsmanship so that they age well and become heritage pieces.
