The Lyst Index – What’s Hot and What’s Not in Fashion Right Now
Every quarter, the world’s leading fashion shopping platform curates and ranks the brands and products consumers search for and buy the most. The Lyst Index is our go-to thermometer for what’s trending in fashion right now. So, let’s dive into what’s caught the attention and sold well in this penultimate quarter of 2024, marking the start of the Autumn/Winter season. By following which brands are rising or declining, you’ll know where best to invest your shopping budget. And, for a wardrobe update, the season’s hottest products offer all the guidance you need. According to Lyst, even amidst today’s economic and political insecurities, “this quarter’s data suggests the aspirational fashion fan is still shopping, but is thoughtful and open-minded when it comes to discovering, or re-discovering, the brands worth investing in now.”
The Lyst Index – Fashion Brands on the Rise
For multiple quarters, Miu Miu has dominated as one of the most sought-after and purchased brands and still is the brand n°1. Yet, this time, the French brand Alaïa takes the lead in growth, climbing 12 spots to secure 5th place as the hottest brand of the period. The Row and Coach also showed impressive gains, rising by 7 and 5 positions, respectively.
In the ongoing ‘fashion duel’ between Gucci and Valentino, Sabato de Sarno successfully nudged Gucci up by two places to secure 8th place on The Lyst Index. Valentino, now under Alessandro Michele’s direction, rose just one spot, putting it in 10th. Despite what critics had forecasted, Sabato de Sarno seems to be pacing ahead of Michele’s efforts.
In contrast, the brand with the sharpest decline was Balenciaga. The backlash from its December 2022 gift collection campaign, which stirred controversy with unsettling references, still haunts the brand. Moreover, consumers are focusing on true value, and Balenciaga’s recent ‘joke’ designs don’t appear to be hitting the mark. Explore more on Balenciaga’s scandal here.

The Lyst Index – Hottest Products
Leading the list is Alaïa’s fishnet ballet flat, a top product that’s bound to have creative director Pieter Mulier feeling pleased. Following closely is Coach’s suede Brooklyn bag – a reflection of the moment’s boho trend.
Puma Speedcar sneakers take third place, while Miu Miu’s Arcadie suede bag lands in fourth.
The Toteme country jacket and Ganni biker boots hold fifth and sixth spots, respectively. For those eyeing a country jacket, Ganni’s collaboration with Barbour is another stylish choice.
Tom Ford’s Bronson sunglasses and the return of Longchamp’s Le Pliage secure seventh and eighth on the season’s hottest list.
Closing out the top ten are the Clarks Original Wallabees and The Frankie Shop’s pleated trousers.
