Countess Maya von Schönburg’s fabulous wardrobe for auction
During my years in London, it was always a pleasure to meet my cousin Maya von Schönburg Glauchau. Whether in the countryside, at her beautiful home near Windsor, where Marilyn Monroe had once lived, or at social events in town, her joie de vivre was contagious. With her mischievous humour and fabulous couture and designer clothes, she was undoubtedly the life of the party. No wonder British magazine, Tatler, described the witty German countess as the most popular woman in London. Now, you can buy some of Maya von Schönburg’s fantastic wardrobe in the upcoming “Passion for Fashion” auction. And let me tell you, it’s an unmissable opportunity for fashionistas who love vintage couture from the ’80s and ‘90s.

Among the 29 pieces that belonged to the sister of Princess Gloria von Thurn und Taxis are a couture Christian Lacroix suit and a jacket from the early ’90s. And also several Vivienne Westwood corsets and dresses. Additionally, you’ll see a vintage Valentino ballgown and patchwork satin jacket from the ’80s. Similarly, evening gowns from Alexander McQueen, Alice Temperley, and Halston are up for grabs in the charity sale. And for fashion history lovers, there’s a Balenciaga evening ensemble from 1963 and a Courrèges skirt and jacket ensemble from the late ’60s.
Besides the luxurious wardrobe of the late Maya von Schönburg, Passion for Fashion is also auctioning items from Victoria, Lady de Rothschild and the Royal Family. For example, a cotton dress made to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, who’s just celebrated her Platinum Jubilee. And shoes, stockings, and chemises that belonged to Queen Victoria.
