At once timeless and modern, the Dior Maison Cross Cannage Collection reinterprets one of the house’s most iconic codes, the geometric weave that has adorned Dior creations since the days of Monsieur himself.

The Origins of Cannage: A Chair, A Code, A Legend

At every défilé held in the salons of 30 Avenue Montaigne, Christian Dior invited his guests to sit on delicate Napoléon III-style chairs, their seats woven in refined cannage. More than a decorative choice, this subtle motif became a symbol of elegance and precision, the kind Dior adored.

These chairs were part of the original décor of Dior’s Parisian townhouse, designed in collaboration with his friend and interior decorator Victor Grandpierre. The Gris Montaigne walls, the gilded mirrors, the gentle light, everything reflected Dior’s exquisite taste. But it was the woven cannage, geometric and tactile, that quietly stole the scene.

As Monsieur Dior once said, “Cannage is a timeless motif that never goes out of style. It brings elegance and sophistication to any creation.”

From Couture to Home: The Cannage Signature

What began as a humble chair pattern evolved into one of Dior’s most enduring symbols. Its geometric pattern, an interplay of squares and diagonals inspired by woven natural fibres, became a signature across haute couture, accessories, and especially the iconic Lady Dior bag.

Today, the cannage remains as modern and recognisable as ever, stitched, embossed, or printed across Dior’s universe, from fashion and beauty to interiors.

Cordelia de Castellane: Redefining Cannage for Dior Maison

Creative Director Cordelia de Castellane, the visionary behind Dior Maison and Baby Dior, continues this legacy with a modern twist. Known for her impeccable taste and effortlessly Parisian style, Cordelia translates Dior’s codes into the world of interiors with an approach that is as personal as it is poetic.

Trays in Tartan Pattern

For the Cross Cannage Collection, she reinterprets the motif with audacious precision, merging it with tartan-inspired patterns and optical illusions. The result is a play of light and texture that captures both modern design and timeless craftsmanship.

Cushions

The collection features throws, cushions, trays, and vases, all carrying the refined geometry of the cannage in soft tones mixed with deep contrasts. The stars of this line include the Miss Dior vases, the large trays, and the breathtaking marquetry boxes and straw vases designed in collaboration with Osanna Visconti.
