Vest, the staple to add chicness and warmth this fall
Since the ’90s keep inspiring fashion, one of the staples you need for layering to perfection this fall is a vest. Nobody wants to use this word nowadays, but the vest is a big trend in fall 2020. The classic garment has reappeared in the sartorial scene with Gucci, Miu Miu and Max Mara.
The most versatile model is the knitted vest, one that looks like a sleeveless pullover. This piece is ideal to create the BCBG girl style. The French preppy babes used to wear this type of gilet over a shirt in the late ’80s and ’90s. And exactly this Parisian bourgeois look is back by the hands of Hedi Slimane in his A/W20 collection for Celine. Burberry also brought back a new bourgeois.
The retro-looking
A retro-looking jacquard gilet keeps you warm and adds chicness to your outfit. Layer it over a crisp white shirt and pair it with wide-legged trousers for a cool boyish office outfit.
The bejewelled
For colder days, a turtleneck under a sleeveless pullover is an excellent option. And if yours doesn’t come with these beautiful bejewelled buttons, you can embellish it with big brooches as Gucci, Dolce e Gabbana and Erdem do.
A transition piece
Transition your wardrobe from summer to autumn with a little help of a knitted gilet. Wear a chunky one over a summer dress to give a longer life to you breezy garment. Thick tights will keep you warm enough.
The preppy uniform
Thom Browne, the designer who made women’s suits fun again, shows us a super preppy look with a white shirt, a skirt and this cute crew neck cashmere vest top that you can repeat. Or go to a relaxed preppy as Chloé suggests in the look below.
The XXL model
A loose-fitted vest, that could have been hand-knitted by your grandma, worn over a white shirt, makes the look cosy and more relaxed.
I am lucky enough to inherit a fantastic vest from my mother from the 70s. It’s a blue cashmere with a deep cleavage that looks like a tennis uniform from the 30s. So, or you go for some of the vests that we showed you previously or go to a vintage shop to fish an original and unique piece.
Have fun.
