10 Brands for Phoebe Philo and Old Celine Lovers
Although it’s been six years since Phoebe Philo announced she would leave Celine (2017), her followers eagerly await her comeback. The good news is that the designer has announced that she is launching her eponymous brand in September this year of 2023. Phoebe Philo also explained that the label are open for registration since July 2023 – you can register here. While waiting for the big return, we put together 10 fashion brands for Phoebe Philo and Old Celine lovers.
According to PR news, the first Phoebe Philo collection will present 150 styles. And they will be available to buy from a dedicated online store, shipping to the UK, US and Europe. We also know that model Daria Werbowy will be the face of the brand. We can expect a grand comeback because although the brand is independent, it has a minority backing from luxury conglomerate LVMH!
This post about the coming back of Phoebe Philo with an eponymous label and the brands that fill the void of Old Celine has been recently updated
Phoebe Philo More Relevant Than Ever
Phoebe Philo was the first assistant to Stella McCartney at Chloé before becoming the brand’s creative director. Then, during the ten years, she’s headed Celine, the British fashion designer became so influential she changed the face of luxury fashion. In fact, her minimalist and modern approach to womenswear with oversized silhouettes, clean lines, and tonal colour palette redefined office dressing and the look of a generation. As a result, after being replaced by Hedi Slimane, her designs have reached cult status among her followers, and women scour the internet to this day in search of Old Celine pieces.
Years later, Phoebe Philo and the Old Celine aesthetic are still an inspiration for many fashion designers – from the ironic trends she launched, like Celine’s ugly shoes and rubber rain boots, to asymmetric and layered looks designed for intelligent and grownup women.
So, let’s look at ten fashion brands influenced by Phoebe Philo and the iconic Old Celine style that fill the void while we waited for Phoebe Philo’s come back.
1 – The Row
The high-luxury fashion brand The Row is the must-have label for women who like couture-like quality and chic minimalism. Launched by the twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, The Row makes sophisticated and comfortable clothes with a perfect cut and excellent materials. The timeless and understated signature looks of the brand are perfect for fans of Phoebe Philo and the Old Celine.
2 – Bottega Veneta
Daniel Lee, Creative Director of Bottega Veneta until the end of 2021, assisted Phoebe Philo for several years, and it shows. So, it’s no surprise the Old Celine followers found in the Italian brand the quiet yet modern elegance they missed. Meanwhile, Matthieu Blazy who created 3 seasons for the Italian house is keeping the flame going.
3 – Totême
The Swedish brand, founded in 2014, epitomises minimalist and refined basics that, much like Phoebe Philo’s old Celine, do not follow trends. Tôteme scandi-chic garments are timeless classics with a twist, like, for example, asymmetric details. Additionally, they come in a muted colour palette in the best Scandinavian style.
4 – Le 17 Septembre
Straight from Korea, Le 17 September is an under-the-radar label that offers a fantastic selection of minimalist pieces. The Old Celine women who’ve been missing Phoebe Philo will love the asymmetric silhouettes and neutral colours of the contemporary looks of this brand. The Seoul-based Eunhye Shin folds her shirts and jackets like beautiful origami.
5 – Khaite
Fashion designer Catherine Holstein launched Khaite in 2016 for women who are looking for elevated classics to wear for several seasons. Phoebe Philo followers find in the New York-based brand polished staples like great sweaters and jeans, and embellished dresses that are paired with, for example, oversized bomber jackets, creating fantastic high/low looks that the Old Celine women wear.
6 – Gabriela Hearst
The Uruguay-born Gabriela Hearst is the creative director of Chloé (the first non-European to hold the post, which, coincidentally, Phoebe Philo held before moving to Celine). But before heading the French luxury fashion house, Gabriela Hearst first founded her eponymous brand, which launched in 2015. The brand is famous for its luxe-craft aesthetic and chic sustainable fashion.
7 – Rejina Pyo
The South-Korean fashion designer Rejina Pyo launched her namesake label in 2014. The London-based brand has attracted Old Celine women thanks to elevating modern and wearable everyday clothes. Additionally, the collections don’t follow short-term trends.
8 – Victoria Beckham
Of course, Victoria Beckham is the go-to brand for Philophiles, the die-hard followers and fans of Phoebe Philo’s Old Celine. The sleek suits with oversized blazers, flowing shirts, and wide-leg trousers the British designer presents season after season makes the perfect uniform for stylish women.
9 – Joseph
Joseph is a favourite among Phoebe Philo followers looking for casual and comfortable office looks. The British fashion brand is booming thanks to its minimalist pieces and subtle avant-garde twist.
10 – A.W.A.K.E
Natalia Alaverdian, the fashion director of Harper Bazaar Russia, founded A.W.A.K.E Mode. The brand offers deconstructed suits and shirts inspired by Japanese art. And the asymmetric looks make fabulous office outfit for powerful professional women who used to wear the Old Celine.
Finally, the fashion trailblazer Phoebe Philo is coming back to fashion with her eponymous brand this year. The designer said, “Being in my studio and making once again has been both exciting and incredibly fulfilling. I am very much looking forward to being back in touch with my audience and people everywhere.”
