Knit list AW21: are you tired of your basic roll necks? It’s sweater season.
October 26, 2021
The cold wind blowing golden leaves means one thing: it’s time for the sweater season. And if you’re tired of your basic roll neck pullover, you’ll be glad to know that AW21 brings some fantastic knit sweater trends that not only look fabulous and timeless but also feel like a warm embrace.
The preppy cardigan goes granny-style
Fashion houses have revamped the French Girl signature cardigan. The feminine and timeless knit comes now with chunky crochet, delicate hand-embroideries or embellishments in the best granny-cardigan style, one hot trend for AW21. Wear these colourful knits with trousers, dresses and skirts, but better pair them with minimalist pieces since their texture is quite busy. You may also want to check the patchwork cardigan that went viral on TikTok.
The classic fisherman cable knit
You can’t go wrong with the quintessentially Irish knitwear. This classic pullover is a chic understatement only the fashion-savvy get. Additionally, the chunky stitches are deceivingly simple; in fact, they each have a different meaning. Read Understanding the stitches of your fisherman sweater to know more about Aran pullovers, the knit choice of royals, heads-of-state, Hollywood celebrities, and one of the main AW21 trends. Although most luxury fashion houses have reinterpreted this timeless knit, we prefer the real thing. In other words, we chose Aran sweaters that are hand-crafted in Ireland using age-old techniques. Our tip: choose oversized knit models that you can wear with another hot AW21 trend; leggings.
Keep wearing the bourgeois polo-shirt trend from summer into AW21 with these preppy collared knits that have a retro style we love so much. Wear the seasonless knits by themselves or under blazers with the collars peeking out.
Now you can feel you’re back at ballet classes in AW21 thanks to the Cache-Coeur cardigans, a knit trend Parisian it-girls have brought back. Wrap-around or belted knits bring femininity to your AW21 wardrobe. Wear them with high-waist jeans like the French Jeanne Damas does, over dresses, or paired with tailored trousers for an elevated office outfit.
Since Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons’ first collab collection, we can’t seem to get enough of the cutout trend in 2021. As a result, even our knit sweaters come embellished with cheeky cutouts for AW21. These stylish details make jumpers look more luxurious and high-end, a good joker piece to dress up and update clothes from last fall and winter.
It’s no secret we love Breton shirts and knits, and this particular AW21 trend will allow us to keep wearing stripes way after summer. Pair striped pullovers and cardigans with wide-leg trousers to recreate the elegant Coco Chanel style, or wear them with jeans and a timeless camel coat for an über-chic fall and winter look.
Après-ski knit trend
The après ski look has left the mountains and invaded big cities as we saw at Fashion Week AW21, consequently, puffer coats and Fair Isle knits are among the main trends for this season and next one. A big favourite of Princess Diana, Fair Isle pullovers are also staples in the fall/winter wardrobes of Thora Valdimars, Pernille Teisbaek and Caroline de Maigret, among other influencers.
Finally, enjoy your new knitwear in the mountains staying at a hotel with an incredible story, the Hotel Elephant.
