A/W 2021 makeup review: 6 trends you should try now

Fall is usually the time of the year we start wearing a little more makeup as our summer glow fades away. But this year, we’re thrilled to see several glamorous trends, including dramatic lip and eye makeup, reemerging in the A/W 2021 runway shows, just in time for life beyond social distancing and face masks. From throwback trends coming back to others, luckily disappearing, here are our A/W 21 complete makeup review with looks you should try now to step up your beauty game for this fall and winter.

1- Intense black liner
Chanel and Dior presented dramatic eyes on the runway, with heavy black liner all around the eyes, becoming a strong makeup trend for A/W 2021. Recreate this bold look with either a black or dark midnight blue eyeliner on the upper and lower lids. And don’t forget to add it to your waterlines, between your eyeball and the base of the lashes, to make your eyes pop more. Nevertheless, if you go for this statement eye look, leave the rest of your makeup mute, barely there. A nude lipgloss will balance your makeup perfectly.

2- Natural Glowy skin
On the other end of the scale, we have the no-makeup makeup with natural glowy skin trend going strong for A/W21, as we saw at Iris van Herpen, Miu Miu, and Roksanda. This girl-next-door makeup is a trend the model Karlie Kloss and the singer/actress Halle Bailey are already wearing in 2021. Achieve a natural glowy skin by applying a primer (can be a good hydration cream too) and then a lightweight tinted CC cream. In other words, the secret for this look is: less is more. Find out here which is the best moisturiser for your skin. For mature skin, choose a hyaluronic acid and vitamin E-infused primer like the one from Herbal Essentials we selected.

3- Natural brows
This is the makeup trend I’m truly thankful to see in A/W 2021. Finally, the reign of exaggerated drawn eyebrows that look like two caterpillars on women’s faces is over, sorry, Kardashians and Co. Natural brows are back, at last, and hopefully, here to stay! The models at Loewe, Altuzzara, and Jason Wu, for example, showed perfect brushed-up brows. You’ll need a good eyebrow soap or gel to recreate this chic trend.

4- Red lipsticks are back
After long months wearing face masks, it was about time to return to our dear old BFF, the red lipstick. Prabal Gurung, Paul Costelloe, Vivienne Westwood, and Erdem sent models down the A/W21 runway with scarlet red lipstick, a strong contender for the No. 1 makeup trend for this season. Of course, you can combine red lipsticks with smoky and kitten eyes, but we especially like the contrast of a statement lipstick against bare skin and eyes, the easiest makeup trick to instantly glam up any look. Take into consideration that dark shades tend to make your lips look smaller, and light shades make them look bigger.

5- Cat eyes
Cat eyes are a makeup trend that will keep going strong in the fall and we saw at A/W 2021 Fashion Weeks. Chanel presented the look with thick lines, and Giambattista Valli took cat eyes to the next level, adding black eyeliner to the models’ waterlines. Nevertheless, the kitten eye trend with smaller, thinner eyeliner flick is growing among fashionistas like the actresses Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney. But, because finding the best liquid eyeliner for the perfect wing eye is not as easy as it seems, here are the ones that won’t smudge.

6- Lashes, lashes, lashes
With our makeup focused mainly on the eyes because of face masks, we’ve gotten used to ultra-long lashes, and this makeup trend will continue in A/W 2021. But, although I absolutely love long lashes and feel naked without mascara, I’m not too fond of the fake eyelashes that look, well, fake, over and rather vulgar. So, if you really must, consider wearing individual lashes on the outer corner of your eyes to frame them more naturally. Otherwise, there are plenty of great mascaras in the market to give your lashes extra volume and length; feel free to apply several coats. And why not brighten up your A/W looks by wearing blue mascara, the ’90s and Y2K makeup trend beauty brands like La Biosthetique have brought back for 2021?
