That a certain color or tone becomes a trend or ‘color of the season’ or even ‘the new black’ happens quite often. After Rose Quartz was named the Pantone color of the year 2016, right now everybody is talking about Millennial Pink. But what is it exactly, that causes the entire furor about this shade and what makes it ‘millennial’?
It all started with innocent designer apparel from Valentino and Balenciaga. The shade has already been quite trending but the take-over in fashion made it even more popular. For the current Fall/Winter collections, there was hardly a designer who did not show it on the runway. Gucci (obviously), Miu Miu, Kenzo…
But millennial Pink is not just a color you wear; it’s a color you surround yourself with. Meaning not only our shoes, bags, dresses, and shades turn pink, but also our coffee cups, our phones, and our walls!
This color has become more than a fashion statement, it came to be the symbol of a whole generation, the cultural zeitgeist. Chosen by the millennial generation to be their color, it emerges everywhere and it truly transmits that zeitgeist it stands for.
Thereby it would be very hard to not hop on the pink train because there is almost no way around it. In fashion, we are used to seeing crazy color trends coming and going but with Millennial Pink, we go beyond this level.
