Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle will marry at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on the 19th May. Read here all about the latest update.
Why have Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chosen to marry in Windsor?
St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castel, one of the main residences of the Royal Family, has hosted many royal weddings before. In 1863 the future King Edward married Princess Alexandra of Denmark. More recently, Prince Edward married Sophie Rhys-Jones, Lady Helen married Tim Taylor, Peter Phillips, grandson of the Queen, married Autumn Kelly and Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles had their marriage blessed there in 2005.
The little British town Windsor is getting ready for the big day when it will be literally invaded by thousands of tourists and royal watchers, not to mention the media and security personnel. Most hotels are already fully booked up to 50 km away from Windsor for the days prior to the wedding, charging almost $ 18,000 for rooms with a view of the carriage procession through Windsor town. So, if you're not able to get a hotel room, do not despair, you can always watch the Royal Wedding on TV while sipping an Earl Grey tea in one of the many Harry-Meghan mugs!
Simon Dudley, the leader of Windsor Council, caused a big scandal with a letter asking local police to get rid of the homeless people before the wedding. He was strongly criticised by the Prime Minister, Theresa May, and by various charities. Even though he later apologised, this controversy caused the resignation of 3 councillors from the Conservative Party and more than 275,000 people signed an online petition against his demand.
American Meghan Markle has not even become part of the Royal Family yet but she has already been voted as the favourite Princess of all times!
In recent surveys among Britons, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were chosen as the members of the Royal Family that they felt were most relatable and in tune with the public, and they also chose Meghan as their favourite Princess of all times, and the most stylish too, scoring even higher than the much beloved Princess Diana, “Queen of Hearts” and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge.
So one can imagine all the excitement and speculation on any detail of this gigantic event!
We all want to know who will walk Meghan down the aisle, what will she wear, who will make her wedding dress, her hair, shoes, who will be on the guest list, even the menu!
People were putting bets on who would design Meghan’s wedding dress. As a matter of fact, bookmakers had to cancel the betting after traders were inundated with bets for Alexander McQueen.
But apparently, they were all wrong since Markle chose Australian London-based designers Ralph and Russo, the same duo who designed the dress she wore for her official engagement photos.
The luxurious wedding dress is said to be the biggest expense of the event and the budget for the gown has already doubled to an incredible 450,000 Euros.
Along with European Royals and aristocracy, celebrities such as Joss Stone, Barack Obama, Sting, Elton John, fashion designer Misha Nonoo, actress Priyanka Chopra, Serena Williams and James Blunt are expected to attend the wedding.
On the other hand, Meghan’s father and half-brother were cut off the guest list because of too much talking to the Press (and not in a nice way!) about the Royal bride-to-be. This is the reason why Prince William will probably be the one walking her down the aisle.
Whatever she chooses to wear, we’re sure stylish Meghan will look absolutely stunning, much to the delight of the cheering crowd of wellwishers!
