MQ Vienna Fashion Week is over and it definitely provided us with one or another highlight. But there exists a (fashion) world outside of the Fashion Week program, with namable Austrian brands that are not to be neglected.
Like many Austria-rooted designers, Hermann Fankhauser and Helga Ruthner, creative minds of Wendy & Jim, met during their studies at the Viennese University of Applied Arts under Helmut Lang. Their men’s and Women’s collection are shown in Paris. They even launched Drop No. 01 Eau de Parfum to accompany their fashions.
After more than 110 years, the hat manufacturer is still a family-run business. The label is popular far beyond Austrian borders, with customers as Brad Pitt, Madonna, Meryl Streep or Yoko Ono.
Arbesser launched his eponymous women’s wear label in February 2013 during Milan’s Fashion Week. In 2015 he was invited to participate at the prestigious PITTI Immagine Fair in Florence as a women’s wear guest designer. No wonder, his designs are eclectic and maverick.
A little breeze from the 80s can still be perceived in the current collections from Schella Kann. Back then, when fashion was all about being eccentric and provocative, the founders Anita Aigner and Gudrun Windischbauer got inspired by Vienna’s vibrant underground- and club scene. Today they are showing their collections in Paris during Fashion Week.
